Stream barriers including dams, culverts (severe-rated by the NAACC), and natural barriers used to generate "miles opened" calculations for dam removals and other fish passage projects over time. Barriers include dams that have been removed. The "DamRemovalPassYear" and "OtherPassYear" indicate the year which a dam or other fish passage project was implemented. The "SUM_LENGTH_MI" field describes the length, in miles, of each barriers' functional connected network. The "batUSNetID" field corresponds to the"batNetID" field in the "MileageCalc_FunctionalRiverNetwork" Feature Class for a barrier's upstream functional connected network. Dam data for the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This data was compiled from multiple state and federal sources and edited by The Nature Conservancy for use in the Northeast Aquatic Connectivity project and the Chesapeake Fish Passage prioritization. These data were "snapped" to dendritic version the high-resolution (1:24,000) National Hydrography Dataset, so that the dam points are geometrically coincident with the stream lines. The data underwent several quality control checks to help ensure that dams are located in the proper location. While some removal projects in NY and WV are included when available, the focus of data collection and review was in MD, VA and PA. |
