Service Description:

Most effective basins based on relative effectiveness (nitrogen) based on revised delineation including Virginia changes as of August 2022.. This version was used to focus Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), signed into law on November 15, 2021, has authorized significant additional funding for Chesapeake Bay restoration. For Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 an additional $15 million is being directed toward areas in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed that are most effective for nitrogen reduction. The direction of these funds for FY 2022 will be based on additional loads the jurisdictions must account for and provide implementation to mitigate due to 2025 climate change, as well as increases in nitrogen loading based on bi-annual update of the watershed model to CAST 21. A minimum of 3 percent will be awarded to each jurisdiction, and those with higher loads will receive additional funding based on their percentage of the overall load increase.
